Every CSCOM advisor operates under a public set of professional standards. This is our commitment to homeowners, builders, and the industry — published here so everyone can see what we stand for.
Our commitment

Every recommendation is grounded in documents, site records, and verifiable facts — not personal opinions. Our advisors are held to these standards publicly.

Core principles

Independence

No financial relationship with builders, suppliers, or tradespeople on your project. Our only obligation is to you.

Client first

We never recommend unnecessary services and never pressure anyone to upgrade their protection level.

Evidence before opinion

Every recommendation is grounded in documents, site records, and verifiable facts.

Professional respect

CSCOM is not anti-builder. We treat every party with respect. We are pro-evidence, not pro-conflict.

Confidentiality

Your project information is protected. We never share client data with third parties without explicit consent.

Transparency

Any potential conflict of interest is disclosed immediately. Our advisors declare all relevant relationships.

Professional boundaries

We distinguish project guidance from legal advice, engineering certification, and statutory decisions.

Accountability

Every advisor is subject to review. Breaches are investigated and acted upon, with full communication to the homeowner.

Our standards
CODE OF CONDUCT
"How do your advisors behave?"
The Code of Conduct sets the minimum behavioural standard for everyone who represents CSCOM — advisors, consultants, and staff. It applies to every interaction with homeowners, builders, partners, and third parties.
Our commitment

Every person who represents CSCOM is bound by this Code. Breaches result in investigation and may lead to removal from the CSCOM advisor network.

Conduct requirements

Act with integrity. Be honest, fair, and transparent in all professional dealings. Never mislead a homeowner, builder, or partner.

Respect all parties. Treat builders, tradespeople, architects, and other professionals with courtesy and professionalism. CSCOM is pro-evidence, not pro-conflict.

Protect client information. Never disclose project details, personal information, or commercial terms without explicit written consent from the homeowner.
04
Decline gifts and inducements. Do not accept gifts, hospitality, or any benefit from builders, suppliers, or any party involved in a client's project.
05
Disclose conflicts immediately. If any personal, financial, or professional relationship could compromise objectivity, disclose it before proceeding.
06
Stay within scope. Do not provide legal advice, engineering certification, or statutory decisions. Refer homeowners to qualified professionals for matters outside CSCOM's remit.
07
Never pressure a client. Do not recommend unnecessary services or upgrades. If the free Learn level is sufficient, say so.
08
Report breaches. If you observe a breach of this Code by any CSCOM representative, report it through the complaints process.

Our independence
INDEPENDENCE POLICY
"Are you really on my side?"
CSCOM exists to protect homeowners. That only works if we are genuinely independent — from the builders we assess, the partners who refer clients, and any party with a financial interest in the project outcome.
Our commitment

CSCOM does not accept commissions, referral fees, kickbacks, or any form of financial incentive from any builder, architect, supplier, or third party involved in a homeowner's project.

How we maintain independence

No builder commissions. We do not accept referral fees, trade commissions, or volume incentives from any builder or tradesperson.

No undisclosed partner incentives. Partners who refer homeowners to CSCOM do not receive payment from CSCOM. Homeowners pay for protection; partners gain client trust.
03
No project outcome interest. CSCOM advisors have no financial interest in whether a project proceeds, which builder is selected, or what materials are specified.
04
Separation of advisory and referral. The team advising a homeowner is never the same team managing partner relationships.
05
Revenue from homeowners only. CSCOM's revenue comes exclusively from homeowners purchasing protection services. No builder, no partner, and no third party pays CSCOM for advisory outcomes.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST
"What if there's a conflict?"
Conflicts of interest undermine trust. CSCOM's policy is to prevent, disclose, and manage conflicts — not simply declare them after the fact.
Our commitment

Any conflict — real, perceived, or potential — must be identified, disclosed, and resolved before the advisor continues working on the project.

How conflicts are managed

Identify. Every advisor must assess potential conflicts at the start of each engagement and continuously throughout the project.

Disclose. Any identified conflict — including personal relationships, prior business dealings, or financial interests — must be disclosed to the homeowner and to CSCOM management immediately.

Resolve. Depending on the nature of the conflict, resolution may include reassigning the advisor, adjusting the scope of engagement, or declining the engagement entirely.
04
Record. All conflicts and their resolution are documented and retained for audit purposes.
Examples of conflicts
A CSCOM advisor has a personal friendship with the builder on the project. A partner who referred the homeowner requests special treatment. An advisor is offered a gift by a supplier. A CSCOM staff member has a financial interest in the outcome of a variation dispute. In every case, the conflict must be disclosed and resolved before work continues.

How AI is used
AI PRINCIPLES
"Will AI make decisions for me?"
CSCOM uses AI to enhance efficiency and consistency. But AI never replaces human judgement on matters that affect homeowners. Here is exactly what AI does and doesn't do at CSCOM.
Our commitment

AI handles preparation; humans handle judgement. No AI system at CSCOM makes recommendations, risk assessments, or decisions on behalf of a homeowner without human review and sign-off.

What AI does

Collects and organises information. AI retrieves builder data, licence records, and project documents to prepare structured summaries for human review.

Generates draft analysis. AI produces initial risk assessments and document reviews that a human advisor reviews, edits, and signs off before delivery.
03
Maintains knowledge base. AI helps curate and update CSCOM's accumulated project knowledge, making relevant precedents available to advisors.
What AI does not do
01
Make recommendations. AI never tells a homeowner what to do. Recommendations come from qualified human advisors.
02
Assess risk autonomously. Risk scoring follows deterministic rules stored in a database and verified by humans. AI does not independently assign risk levels.
03
Communicate with homeowners unsupervised. All homeowner-facing communication is reviewed by a human before delivery.

If something goes wrong
COMPLAINTS PROCESS
"What if I have a problem?"
If you believe a CSCOM advisor has not met our standards, or if something has gone wrong with your experience, we want to know. This is how we handle complaints.
Our commitment

Every complaint is acknowledged within 2 business days and resolved within 15 business days. All complaints are reviewed by someone not involved in the original engagement.

How complaints are handled

Submit. Use the form below or email contact@cscom.com.au. Provide your project reference and describe the issue.

Acknowledge. We confirm receipt within 2 business days and assign an independent reviewer.
03
Investigate. The reviewer examines the facts, interviews relevant parties, and reviews documentation.
04
Resolve. We communicate the outcome to you within 15 business days, including any corrective action taken.
05
Follow up. If you are not satisfied with the resolution, you may request escalation. We also accept reports through Consumer Affairs Victoria and NSW Fair Trading.

Common questions about CSCOM's standards, independence, and operations.
Are CSCOM advisors truly independent?
Yes. Advisors are prohibited from receiving payments or benefits from builders, suppliers, or tradespeople on your project. Our revenue comes exclusively from homeowners purchasing protection services.
Is CSCOM anti-builder?
No. We are pro-evidence. When a builder is doing the right thing, our records reflect that. Fair evidence protects everyone — including builders who deliver quality work.
Will my advisor pressure me to buy more?
Never. If the free Learn level is sufficient for your situation, that's what we'll suggest. Our Code of Conduct explicitly prohibits pressuring clients to upgrade.
What if an advisor breaches these standards?
Breaches are investigated by an independent reviewer and acted upon — including removal from the CSCOM advisor network. We communicate the outcome to the affected homeowner within 15 business days.
Does CSCOM provide legal advice?
No. We help you organise evidence and understand risk. For legal matters, we recommend consulting a qualified solicitor. We maintain clear professional boundaries.
How is AI used at CSCOM?
AI handles preparation — collecting data, organising documents, drafting summaries. Humans handle judgement — reviewing, deciding, and communicating with you. AI never makes recommendations or decisions on your behalf.
How do I submit a complaint?
